Sure, if your air\nconditioning system suddenly fails on you, you\u2019ll know it\u2019s time to call our NATE-certified\nprofessionals to repair it. But if you notice something smaller about the AC\nthat seems \u201coff\u201d as the summer starts, you might not think it\u2019s a big deal.\nMaybe you can wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please, don\u2019t delay repairs. You\u2019ll save yourself money and a bigger problem farther down the road if you wait. Below are a few of the supposedly \u201csmall\u201d malfunctions that tell you it\u2019s time to pick up the phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Odd noises: <\/strong>Weird sounds from the AC are\nsomething people ignore far too often. Rattling, clanging, hissing, grinding,\netc. All of these are warning of mechanical failures or leaking refrigerant or\nother problems that will only worsen if left alone.<\/li><li><strong>Ice on the coil:<\/strong> Another serious problem\nthat is often overlooked because people think that ice is a natural part of how\nan AC works. It isn\u2019t! Ice on the evaporator coil means the coil isn\u2019t absorbing\nenough heat from the air, and this could be due to many different problems with\nthe AC, including low refrigerant that puts the compressor in danger.<\/li><li><strong>Uneven cooling:<\/strong> Are there some rooms in\nyour house that are hotter than normal, while other rooms are the standard?\nThis uneven cooling is often the first warning sign of an air conditioner that\u2019s\nlosing its general cooling power. It could also mean trouble with the blower\nfan. <\/li><li><strong>Rise in electrical bills:<\/strong> When the first monthly\nbills arrive after the AC has turned on, did they look suspiciously higher than\nnormal? (Not counting the increase in costs from just having the AC on.) This\noften indicates a hidden issue in the air conditioner that\u2019s putting extra\npressure on the system to drain more power. <\/li><li><strong>Short cooling cycles:<\/strong> If the air conditioner\nisn\u2019t completing at least a 15-minute cooling cycle, and instead turns on and\noff rapidly, it\u2019s \u00ad<em>short-cycling<\/em>.
