Spring is the perfect time to have an inefficient and unreliable air conditioner removed and replaced with a new one. But we\u2019d like to make a suggestion for how to make your new AC installation even better: zone controls. A zone control system can make an enormous difference for some homes when it comes to energy savings, convenience, and comfort. We\u2019ll explain more below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

What Are Zone Controls?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Basically, zone controls are a way to divide up a house into different climate \u201czones.\u201d The zones can be individual rooms, or they could be as broad as a division between the upstairs and the downstairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of these zones can have its climate manipulated separately from the others. For example, on a hot day, the AC can send cooled air to the vents in the rooms that are occupied, but have the cooling shut off for empty rooms. The zone controls can also be programmed to turn cooling on and off in sequence through a house so that temperatures spread through it evenly.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Do Zone Controls Work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To install zone controls, our technicians must place a series of dampers into the ducts as well as install a variable-speed blower that can change how much power it uses depending on the demands on the zone control system. We also install a central thermostat and individual thermostats in each of the zones which can be used to control their climates. This allows a person in a zone to change the temperature setting for the room by adjusting the thermostat. The dampers close and open to allow for air to flow to the rooms requesting cooling but not to the other rooms.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Are the Benefits of Zone Control<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First, we want to point out that a zone control system works for the HVAC as a whole, so it also applies to heating during the winter. Here are the other benefits of having zone controls:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
